What inspired you to choose a career in social work / professional counseling?
My journey into social work began with a desire to connect with individuals, support their personal development, and facilitate positive change. Shortly after graduating college, I found an opportunity at a small mental health center in North Jersey. This role allowed me to engage with families and children in various capacities, including supervised visitation, social skills, anger management groups, and crisis intervention. These diverse experiences provided me with a comprehensive understanding and exposure to a career in social work and inspired me to further my education. Within a year, I began pursuing a master’s degree in social work, beginning a fulfilling 25-year career that has allowed me to explore various settings, including mental health centers, hospitals, and schools, which truthfully has shaped my professional journey and reinforced my commitment to the field of social work.
Can you describe any therapeutic modalities or techniques you use in clinical practice?
Based on my background and experiences, cognitive behavioral therapy has allowed my clients and me to focus on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors to meet their therapeutic goals in a concrete and real manner. My ultimate goal is to help individuals develop healthier thinking patterns and coping strategies that work for them throughout all areas of their lives.

How would you describe your approach in practice?

I take a holistic approach to therapy, integrating cognitive-behavioral techniques and strategies to enhance my client's psychological, emotional, and behavioral well-being. Building a comfortable and trusting relationship is essential for effective therapy and meaningful progress.  I want my clients to have an “imaginary” backpack filled with tools and strategies they are comfortable using in real life when needed.

What’s a hobby or interest you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of my professional life, I have various interests and hobbies. I love the beach and exploring the outdoors, whether walking, biking, or simply relaxing. I’ve recently developed a passion/ obsession for pickleball and enjoy playing regularly. I am a self-proclaimed Disney World enthusiast. I love traveling and experiencing new places. I’m also a devoted dog lover, sharing my home with three furry companions.
Do you have a favorite book, movie, song or quote that inspires you?
I am a media junkie….books, movies, Netflix, all music genres, I love and take joy in it all. One of my favorite scenes in a movie is from The Little Giants, where Coach Danny O’Shea, portrayed by Rick Moranis, delivers an inspiring halftime speech to his underdog football team. At this moment, Coach O’Shea tells the boys about his experience as the younger sibling to his super athletic, successful, and popular older brother, who happens to be coaching the other team. He describes facing defeat often during his childhood, which made him want to shut down and just stop trying. But he shared with the boys that he raced his brother home from school down Cherry Hill every day. Coach O’Shea says, “We raced every day, and he always beat me, but one time, one time …I beat him.” Other boys began sharing their one-time stories. Coach O’Shea emphasizes that while success may be rare—failure occurring maybe "99 times out of 100"—the key is to persist and continue striving, as there will always be that “one” moment when perseverance pays off. The scene exemplifies the importance of grit and determination even when the odds are stacked against you. It inspires me and reminds me that success is not always immediate, but persistence and hard work can eventually lead to breakthrough moments. It reminds me to commit to my goals, recognizing that perseverance can lead to unexpected and rewarding outcomes.
